A typical electrical repair visit in Orlando costs $150–$500, about $300 on average. That covers roughly one to two hours of diagnosis and a minor repair. Bigger faults get their own number before more work starts.
What counts as an electrical repair?
A repair visit is troubleshooting: something stopped working or started acting strangely, and you don't know why. That sets it apart from an install, where the job is already known. You pay for finding the fault as much as for fixing it.
What are the most common electrical problems?
| Symptom | Common causes | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Breaker trips again and again | Overload, a bad appliance or a wiring fault | Breaker keeps tripping |
| Lights flicker or dim | Bulb and dimmer mismatch, loose connection or a big load starting | Flickering lights |
| Several outlets dead at once | A tripped GFCI elsewhere, or a loose connection in a box | GFCI outlets |
| Warm or buzzing outlet or switch | A worn device or loose wire | Outlets and switches |
| Part of the house is out | Tripped breaker, failed breaker or a utility-side problem | Check the panel, then call |
When is an electrical problem an emergency?
Smoke, fire, sparks you can see or someone hurt means leave and call 911. Do that first. A burning smell or a hot panel with no visible fire means stop using that circuit, shut it off if that's safe, and call or text (305) 859-1478 rather than filling in a form. Water on electrical equipment or a downed line? Stay away, and call your utility.
What can I check before calling an electrician?
A few safe minutes can save you a visit. Stop if anything feels off.
- Look for a tripped breaker. It sits between on and off. Our reset guide walks through it.
- Press the reset on nearby GFCIs. Bathroom, kitchen, garage and outdoor ones can cut power to other outlets.
- Unplug what was running. Then try the circuit again.
- Try a known-good bulb. It's a cheap way to rule out the easiest cause.
- Note the pattern. When it happens, and what else is on. This is gold for the electrician.
What is included in a repair visit?
Diagnosis first, then the fix, if it's minor. The electrician tests the circuit, finds the fault and tells you what it takes. A loose connection, a failed breaker or a worn device often gets handled on that visit. Anything bigger becomes its own quote, for you to accept or decline. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's old advice still holds: find out why a breaker trips, and don't just reset it.
What changes the price of an electrical repair?
- How well hidden the fault is. An open box is quick. A fault inside a finished wall takes longer to reach.
- Parts. A new breaker or section of wire adds to the bill, usually modestly.
- Timing. Nights and weekends are priced differently and fall outside the typical price.
- Grouping. Got three small problems? Put them on one visit.
Few Central Florida electricians publish repair prices, so we explain how the number is built in the electrical repair cost guide.
How do I book a repair?
Pick Repair and describe it in plain words: what stopped, when, and what you tried. A photo of the panel with the door closed can help. If the safety screen flags your answer, it will point you to the right call. Otherwise, you see the typical price. We then call or text to arrange a time. Get my repair price.

Common questions
Can the price be fixed before the electrician arrives?
Not for repairs. Until someone traces the fault, nobody knows how big the job is. The typical price tells you what a usual visit costs, and the electrician gives you the firm number once they know the cause.
What if the repair turns out to be bigger?
The electrician tells you before doing more. You can say no. You decide whether to go ahead.
Is a repair different from replacing an outlet?
Yes. Replacing known outlets or switches is its own job. See outlets and switches.
Half my house lost power. Is that an electrician or the utility?
Check your neighbors and your main breaker first. If the neighbors are out too, report it to your utility. If only you are affected and resetting the main does not help, call your utility, because the problem may be on its side of the meter. Then get an electrician if the utility says it is yours.
Do storm repairs need an inspection?
They might. After Hurricane Milton, Duke Energy Florida told customers with damage to a meter base, panel or customer-owned wiring to contact their municipality, and said inspections may be required afterward.
Can you come out tonight?
That comes down to who is free. After-hours and weekend calls are priced differently, and they are not part of the typical price. If it feels urgent, call or text (305) 859-1478 rather than filling in the form.
