Tesla Wall Connector installation in Orlando typically costs $800–$2,500, electrical permit included and the connector itself extra. For full speed, Tesla's manual calls for a 60-amp breaker, which delivers 48 amps or 11.5 kW at 240 volts.
What breaker size does a Tesla Wall Connector need?
A 60-amp double-pole breaker gives the top speed, and smaller breakers are allowed at lower speeds. The Wall Connector's output is set during commissioning to match the circuit, so a smaller supply doesn't rule it out. These figures come straight from Tesla's Gen 3 installation manual:
| Circuit breaker | Maximum output | Power at 240 volts |
|---|---|---|
| 60 amps | 48 amps | 11.5 kW |
| 50 amps | 40 amps | 9.6 kW |
| 40 amps | 32 amps | 7.6 kW |
| 30 amps | 24 amps | 5.7 kW |
Your car has its own limit too, so check its maximum home charging rate before paying for capacity it can't use.
Do you need the full 48 amps?
Probably not, if you park overnight and drive normal Central Florida commutes. Speed matters most when you drive long distances daily, or two cars share one connector. Ten or so hours parked covers a lot of miles even at 32 amps. Choosing 40 or 50 amps can also keep you off the 200-amp upgrade, if your home has a smaller service and the load check is tight.
Wall Connector or NEMA 14-50 outlet for a Tesla?
The Wall Connector is the permanent choice. The 14-50 outlet is the flexible one. EnergySage says an outlet setup is typically limited to 40 amps. Hardwiring also leaves no plug to wear out or to come loose over years of daily charging. If you might move or switch car brands, the outlet is easier to reuse.
What happens on a Wall Connector install?
- Load check. The electrician reads your panel and your big appliances, then recommends a breaker size.
- Route. Garage wall, attic or conduit. Length drives most of the labor.
- Permit. The City of Orlando requires an electrical permit with an associated engineering permit. Other cities word it differently.
- Mount and wire. The connector goes on the wall, hardwired to the new circuit. Tesla says installation belongs with people trained and qualified to do it.
- Commission and test. The breaker size is set in the app, and the car takes its first charge.
What changes the price of a Wall Connector install?
Distance and panel room. The connector's price is separate. A panel near the garage keeps you close to $800, while a long attic run or exterior route pushes you toward $2,500. A panel that needs replacing is a separate job, with its own typical price of $1,500–$4,500. See the EV charger installation cost guide for published local figures, or the main EV charger installation page for the full picture. City by city, the permit and utility details differ: see Orlando, Winter Garden, Lake Mary or any of our service areas.

Common questions
Do I need a 60-amp breaker for a Wall Connector?
Only for its top speed of 48 amps. Tesla's manual lists lower breaker sizes too, and says to choose a lower configuration if your supply cannot support 60 amps.
Can two Wall Connectors share one circuit?
Tesla's manual describes a power sharing feature for groups of Wall Connectors, up to six in a group, so several can work within a limited supply. Tell us if you have two cars, and the electrician will plan the circuits around it.
Do I need an outdoor disconnect switch?
Tesla's manual says external disconnect switches are neither required nor recommended by Tesla. Your local inspector has the last word, so the electrician will build to what your jurisdiction asks.
Does the Wall Connector charge other brands?
This page covers the Gen 3 Wall Connector with a Tesla connector. Non-Tesla drivers should ask about adapters and connector type before buying, or consider a 14-50 outlet with a portable charger.
